2014 Chilifest

Who will take the traveling chili award for 2014?

Sept. 20 5-9p

Music by Rosbrook Studio

Last year was a blast!  Rosbrook Studio took over the music stage and put on one awesome show.  We were entertained by a range of bands from young kids to acoustic elders.  Rosbrook's holding down the musical fort once again this year.  It's a musical experience not to miss. Just like Gardenstock, Chilifest is picnic style so you can bring your own cooler, blanket or chair.

Last year, new-comer, Michelle Musgrove took the traveling chili award for 2013.  Who knows whose mantel it will sit on for 2014. Each year the chili booths and eats just keep getting more creative and tasty. Year's past spectacles ranged from the Scarecrow Sisters delights, in costume Vampire chefs, offering mouth-watering, “Vampire Chili”, to the flip-flop footed, Wolfman, who, in addition to his wonderful “Wolfman Chili” took it upon him self to lug in a grill, roast up some scrumptious shish-ka-bob and saunter around feeding people.  Our guess, he'll be back at it again.  Two years running now, he's taken People's Choice.

ENTER A CHILI

For the second year running, Bill 'Wolfman' Wolfe of Dixon received the People's Choice award in 2013. Michelle Musgrove of Sterling won Judge's Best and took home the traveling chili award. Those interested in entering a chili should contact Bud LeFevre at Distinctive Gardens, 815-285-0014. Free to enter, deadline for entry is September 15, 2014.

THE MUSIC

On deck for music, Rosbrook Studio has lined up four regional bands to play throughout the cook-off. Sound will be provided by the famed Mark Twain and the Mudpuppys for your chili concert enjoyment.

5:00 p.m. The Lone Canary

The Lone Canary is a newly formed Folk/Americana duo comprised of Rockford musicians, Jesse Fox and Heather Camacho. The Lone Canary has an acoustic, rootsy sound echoing the styles of The Civil Wars, Mumford and Sons, Cory Chisel and Joshua James.

6:00 p.m. Catfish Dogs

Powerhouse singer Michael Duerst and guitarist Matt Fichter will blow your mind with an array of classic rock and roll, acoustic style. If you missed them at Gardenstock this is a must see.

7:00 p.m. KATG

This eight-piece band is a crazy group of co-workers and family who enjoy making music together. They cover a wide mix of music from the past 50 years.

8:00 Space Juice

Follow all that chili with dessert! Offering up the kind of music you can't sit still for, the brother's Quintana, (Camillo and Andres), round out the evening with some tasty tunes. Playing together for over 30 years, they slide out super groovy jams of covers and originals with a Latin flair and a dash of funk.

CHILI, DOGS AND DUDS

Pack those coolers, prep those taste buds, and get ready to experience the most creative cook off in town. It's picnic style meaning you can bring your own chair, blanket and cooler. Chili tasting begins promptly at 5:00 p.m. Many of the contestants come decked out in costume or decorate their chili table. Year's past spectacles ranged from the Scarecrow Sisters delights, in costume Vampire chefs, offering mouth-watering, "Vampire Chili", to the flip-flop footed, "Wolfman", who, took it upon himself to lug in a grill, roast up some scrumptious shish-ka-bob and saunter around feeding people. The Thom & Kris Hot Dog stand will serve up dogs to go with that chili.

    ----------- TIPS --------------

Limited quantities. If you put multiples of an item you want and we only have one in stock an alert will pop up on the desktop site telling you it is out of stock. That means the quantity you selected is higher than the available inventory. For example, Tufa Troughs are all unique. There is only one of each. Each week we take an inventory and add back products that might show as sold out. We’re doing this so we don’t oversell by mistake. So our product availability will change weekly.

iPad shopping. We learned that the pop-up screen where you enter your credit card info was a problem for some. At times the credit card fields were way at the top of the screen and some could not see where to enter their information when shopping on an iPad. This happened especially when they had big orders. If you have problems please message our Facebook Page. We’re learning right along with you and want to help.
